2015 LA Marathon
March 15th, 2015 was the annual LA Marathon. A sold out team of 25,000 runners and nearly 100,000 spectators crowded the sidewalks of small neighborhoods and main through-fairs alike. Born and raised in Los Angeles I have watched the event dozens of times and on this occasion, the sheer volume of resources needed to run the event shocked me. Be it the hundreds of thousands of paper water cups lining the gutters, the thousands of dollars spent to close 26+ miles of roadway, the dozens of news media outlets fighting to make the same shots seem interesting or most of the LAPD standing around like boobs.
While 125,000 cheering people do bring positive energy, the mess of their wake equally impacts the community in a negative way.
